Minnesota’s North Shore

For our final camping trip of the year, we headed up to Minnesota’s Lake Superior shoreline for the first time. There are a number of state parks and hiking trails to explore so I’m sure we’ll make many return trips in the coming years. For this visit we sampled a bunch of places on the southern half of the shoreline.

Iona’s Beach

A beautiful and interesting pink rock beach, enhanced by the light hoarfrost that formed right on the rocks.

Little Two Harbors and Split Rock Lighthouse

Black Beach/Turtle Island

A very cool black sand beach that runs out to a pink rock island. Fun colors!

Shovel Point at Tettegouche State Park

A steep but short hike takes you out to this great panoramic view of the lakeshore.

Gooseberry Falls Campground

I’m always happy when a campground has some interesting features and I don’t have to travel far in the morning or evening for photography. In this case a nice rocky lakeshore provided a lot of opportunities.
